Lockton Artist Sue Slack is currently exhibiting at Lockton Tea Rooms & Gallery with a collection of brand new work.
Sue paints landscape and this is fuelled by her passion for running and hiking.
More known for her brightly coloured acrylic paintings, Sue has recently begun to diversify her practice, exploring new ways of working in mixed media and collage. Influenced by scenes she glimpses on her fell runs, Sue continues to be drawn to the shape of the land and increasingly by the effect that light can have on different textures.
The work on show here is mixed media. All of the pieces have been done insitu on the cliff edge or hunkered down amongst the vegetation. Once back in the studio, Sue lets the paintings sit awhile as she contemplates what she needs to do to ‘finish’ them. This can often involve collage and drawing back in to achieve the effect she wants. She finds that float mounting the work within the frames gives it space, representing the feeling of freedom that being in nature imparts.
Sue’s work may be taking a new direction but it continues to be informed by her love of outdoors
The exhibition runs from 6th August until 21st September.
